ABOUT

Freelance theatre, comedy, and docu-film producer; teacher/trainer, mentor & mental health recovery worker. I also project manage, stage manage, and promote my own gigs and arts events.

Hello, and thank you for taking a nosey at my website!

As a neurodiverse, multi-faceted creative, having undertaken a 14+ PGCE in Creative Practices later in life, my main areas of interest are creative support strategies for those with neuro-diversities and mental health needs. Taking inspiration from Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs model, I believe everyone should have the opportunity to self-actualise and with the right encouragement, guideance and environment, it's never too late to explore, nurture and develop your 'thing'! This is where Maslow Studios comes in as I prepare to launch in the Autumn of this year, offering 1-2-1 training and mentoring, both online and in-person.

I am also facilitating sessions for the wonderful NHS Recovery Academy on a freelance basis. Anyone is welcome to book onto their many FREE fantastic mental health-themed courses here.

Some of my creative work includes performing in shows with the wonderful Three Minute Theatre Company, various comedy sketch projects, and producing and directing Rik Mayall’s last-ever voicework in a stage show 'It's Grimms Up North: Rik Mayall's Lost Tapes', for writer and music producer Mike Bennett, which we are staging at the Edinburgh Festival this year.

I currently have a couple of documentary films in progress featuring some of Manchester’s unsung heroes of the underground music scene; and am often working on my W-I-P comedy script writing.

In 2022, I founded ShyTalk Legacy, in honour of dear friend Ste Shy, who ran the now iconic Manchester punk fanzine 'ShyTalk' in the late '70s. What began as a tribute event, has progressed to become a festival and SHYFEST II is taking place in June 2024, after successfully staging 20 acts back-to-back over one day last year! You can see many of the acts I've staged by clicking here.

The next stage in the project is taking over a physical venue which will open in Autumn 2024, to enable us as a collective, to put on these events with more regularity as well as offer a studio and rehearsal space for grassroots musicians and performers of all genres. I am also launching an homage magazine as a digital and print-to-order product, where we will feature their work.

My strengths are event, project, and stage management, conceptualisation; directing, producing, and writing; as well as more visual skills, such as designing and hands-on creating.

Please do get in touch if you think we may be able to collaborate on something!

Best wishes,

Yvette
